  1. 5 Gesänge Op 104 - Johannes Brahms
  2. Gott ist mein Hirt (Psalm 23) - Franz Schubert
  3. Zum Sanctus, from Deutsche Messe D 872 - Franz Schubert
  4. Rondo in A D 951 - Franz Schubert
  5. Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) Op 45 - Johannes Brahms, arranged by the composer for piano 4 hands, soloists and choir

Brahms's exquisite German Requiem is one of the best-loved pieces of choral music. Rather than a usual setting of the Latin Requiem Mass, Brahms collected together sacred texts, including psalms, in German. He saw the work as a 'human' Requiem - giving comfort to the living with text such as "Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be comforted". We are accompanied on the piano by Ian Tindale and Michael Higgins in the version for four hands that Brahms himself prepared. Our soloists are Helen Semple and Stephen Kennedy.

In the first half of the concert we will perform Brahms's Fünf Gesänge, Op 104 and two pieces by Schubert: Psalm 23, Gott is Mein Hirt, a beautiful work for women's voices and Zum Sanctus from Deutsche Messe for men's voices.
