We are delighted to return to St Catherine's Church for an evening of inspirational choral music by British and European composers. The concert, in aid of St Catherine's restoration fund, also features much-loved arias from Handel's Messiah and Haydn's Creation sung by brilliant young soprano, Ellen Pearson, winner of our 2017 Kath Topping Vocal Award. Ellen is accompanied by John Williams.

We have chosen Gerald Finzi's My spirit sang all day as the concert's title as it sums up the mood of the evening's entertainment. All tastes are catered for in our selection of popular and sacred songs in a wide variety of styles from the Renaissance to the present day. Included are cheeky French chansons and moving Italian madrigals, jazzy Shakespeare settings by Sir George Shearing and inspirational anthems by greats such as William Byrd, Queen Elizabeth I's favourite and Sir Hubert Parry, whose centenary we celebrate this year. From 16th-century Italy we also feature two gems by Maddalena Casulana, the first female composer in the history of music to have her work published.
