This concert is part of La Belle Époque: A French Weekend Festival of Chamber Music and Song from France's Golden Age. In collaboration with the University of Sheffield.

Ravel’s Trio, finished just a few days after the outbreak of the First World War, stands alongside Debussy’s Cello Sonata, a work conceived towards its end. Debussy’s work is in one sense traditional, built around ‘Sonata’ form, yet its character is resolutely forward-looking. Ravel’s Tzigane is a bravura piece of showmanship demanding extreme virtuosity. Expect fireworks!

“Eleven international musicians, brimming with body and soul with passion, vitality and virtuosity, whose performances never cease to amaze” The Independent

After this concert at 16.30 to 17.15, is a talk by Dr. Charlotte de Mille, Music Curator at the Courtland Instute of Art in London, discusses with Tim Horton (piano), impressionism in relation to art and music, with pictorial and musical illustrations - tickets £6
