  2. Concerto for flute and orchestra in D Op 283 - Carl Reinecke
  3. Symphony No 3 in F Op 90 - Johannes Brahms

Southport Orchestra's spring concert features three works by German composers including Brahms's 3rd Symphony which was described by the music critic Eduard Hanslick as being artistically the most nearly perfect of his symphonies. Jane Pembelton-Smyth will perform the flute solo in Reinecke's Concerto for flute and orchestra.

This will be the first of a series on concerts in which the programme of each will consist of music by composers from one country. The Orchestra is delighted to be invited to return to play at St John's Church, Birkdale where the acoustics for orchestral music are particularly good.
