Cambridge University Sinfonia are conducted by Cambridge University Musical Society's Conducting Scholar Naomi Woo for their Lent term concert. Opening the programme is Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho's Lumière et Pesanteur, an overture-length piece dedicated to conductor and composer Esa-Pekka Salonen. Cambridge alumna Helen Charlston joins as soloist in Elgar's song cycle Sea Pictures, before returning to Finland for Sibelius's Symphony No 2 in D major, which the composer himself described as "a confession of the soul".
