Surrey Mozart Players make a welcome return to the beautiful surroundings of the Menuhin Hall for an evening of classical masterpieces by Mozart, Beethoven and Mendelssohn, composers who feature at the very core of this orchestra’s repertoire. Also making a welcome return is outstanding pianist James Brawn who will continue his Beethoven concerto cycle project with the orchestra by performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1. His acclaimed recordings of Beethoven’s piano sonatas for the MSR label have earned him an international reputation, “James Brawn’s Beethoven is really rather special” quotes The Classical Reviewer.

Surrey Mozart Players are excited to welcome guest conductor Edward Farmer, who has already made a name for himself in London and Europe, and is the founder Music Director of the London Arts Orchestra. In addition to the concerto, he will conduct the orchestra in a performance of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No 1, written at the astonishing age of 15, but by no means a juvenile work. The influences of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven can be heard throughout this engaging piece. Mozart’s Overture Cosi Fan Tutte and Mendelssohn’s Overture The Fair Melusine introduce each half of the concert, so it promises to be an evening not to be missed!

Surrey Mozart Players have earned a well-deserved reputation for imaginative, exciting and entertaining programmes, featuring repertoire from baroque and classical, to modern masterpieces, and including premiers of newly-commissioned works. Their playing has recently been described as: 'well articulated, vigorous and controlled with strong dynamic contrasts, steady, harmonious woodwind, brass and string combinations and delicate phrasing... thrilling.'
