  1. Requiem Op 9 - Maurice Duruflé
  2. Adagio for Strings Op 11 - Samuel Barber
  3. Chichester Psalms - Leonard Bernstein

This thrilling and emotional concert presents three undoubted masterpieces of the mid-20th century. Duruflé’s sensuous Requiem is on many singers’ Desert Island lists, a spirit-lifting and mystical collision of medieval plainsong and rich French harmonies. Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings is one of the most famous classical pieces of all and can melt even the hardest of hearts, while Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms marries a Hebrew text with sparkling orchestration, fiery rhythms and bluesy inflections to create a real showstopper. With our colleagues, the excellent East Anglia Chamber Orchestra, we aim to fill St John’s College Chapel with sound, and we very much hope you’ll come and enjoy it with us.
