  1. King Lear Overture Op 4 - Hector Berlioz
  2. Symphonic Variations Op 78 - Antonín Dvorák
  3. Symphony No 5 in E flat Op 82 - Jean Sibelius

Dvorák’s Symphonic Variations are full of magical warmth and colour and also influenced several other composers, particularly Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Sibelius’s Fifth Symphony is one of the orchestral masterpieces, displaying the composer’s skill, with evocative and dramatic writing and the famous horn calls which were inspired by swans flying overhead. Berlioz’s mercurial King Lear overture provides a richly programmatic opening to the concert.
This concert is in aid of Elders Voice.
