Surrounded by the beautiful pre-raphaelite Burne-Jones windows in All Hallows Church, come and listen to some calm and reflective music for Lent. As well as the two soloists the choir will be joined by a wind ensemble.

Bob Chilcott, a British choral director and composer, writes some beautiful choral music. He was a boy chorister at Kings College Cambridge and went on to join the Kings' Singers for 12 years. He wrote his Requiem in 2010: it has echoes of previous Requiem composers but has its own distinctive and serene quality.

Gerald Finzi was also a British composer who concentrated on choral music. The piece you will hear at this concert, written in 1946, is set to words by Richard Crawshaw, who used the Hymns of St Thomas Aquinas as his inspiration.

Joseph Haydn's choral repertoire is probably best known for pieces such as The Creation and The Seasons. His Little Organ Mass is less well known but no less beautiful. The Latin words are familiar, but his technique of writing different words for different voices sung at the same time, was unusual.
