The critically acclaimed Oxfordshire early music trio Musical Banquet will be making a welcome return to All Saints' Church, North Moreton, Oxfordshire at 7.30pm on Saturday 3rd March 2018 and performing a special Gala Charity Concert in aid of Church Refurbishment Funds. Step back in time 400 years to hear the group serve up a delectable menu of musical delicacies, including vocal and instrumental works by Dowland and Gibbons along with their English and European contemporaries, interspersed with colourful period anecdotes.
The Grade I listed church of All Saints dates from the 13th century and stands in the centre of this small village, some 2 miles east of Didcot. The east window of glorious Chantry Chapel, built onto the South side of the Chancel, still features 5 lancets filled with exceptional medieval stained glass and the bells of the 15th Century tower are currently being restored and supplemented.
This historic building provides a fitting backdrop for tonight’s concert - an unusual and highly entertaining opportunity to experience works performed on period instruments combined with Countertenor voice much as the 17th and 18th century audience might have heard them. With plenty of surprises along the way, the evening will be presented in the group's characteristically innovative and imaginative style and the gourmet ‘menu’ includes some spicy 'musical nibbles' from 17th century Spain, accompanied by Baroque Guitar, and some 'sweet treats' from one of England's finest composers, Henry Purcell. A tempting indulgence for all musical gastronomes!
Ticket prices include a complimentary souvenir programme and a glass of wine or soft drink during the interval when there will be an opportunity to meet and talk with the musicians. All proceeds from this event will be donated to church refurbishment projects.
