  1. Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor (The Merry Wives of Windsor) - Otto Nicolai
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor Op 54 - Robert Schumann
  3. Scheherazade Op 35 - Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov

Love stories and fairy tales have long served as an inspiration to composers and this concert features three of the most beautiful of such inspirations.

The concert opens with Nicolai’s Merry Wives of Windsor Overture, inspired by Shakespeare’s comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor, its immediate success having gained it a concert life of its own.

Schumann's Piano Concerto was written for and premiered by his beloved wife Clara who was considered to be one of the great pianists of the day.

The concert ends with a musical flourish with the alluring stories of Arabian Nights in Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade.
