The Elysian Singers, one of London's liveliest and most adventurous choirs, are thrilled not only to present Faure’s astonishing Requiem but the world premiere of a piece specially designed to accompany it. ‘Still the Sirens’ is the first major choral work by London-based composer Danyal Dhondy. A cycle of seven settings of poets including AE Housman, John Donne, Emily Dickinson and Maya Angelou, the piece is a meditation on the troubled times that we are living through and the power of human resilience.

Commissioned from Danyal Dhondy by Making Music, with funding from the Nicholas Berwin Charitable Trust, the new piece will be available free to Making Music members until July 2020.

The programme also features one of Poulenc’s best-loved works, ‘Quatre motets pour un temps de penitence’, a setting of texts from the Holy Week offices.
