encore presents: Richard Durrant with Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble

The stunning purpose-built Sarah Abraham Recital Hall is hosting this special concert featuring encore ambassador and ex-Brighton Youth Orchestra member Richard Durrant. Now a globe-trotting concert artist and composer, Richard’s shows sell out all over Britain.

In this latest Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble collaboration, he’ll be performing a small selection of his phenomenal repertoire, including The girl at the airport, for guitar and strings and a specially arranged extract from his latest work Six grooves for ukulele. This ukulele concerto, written by Durrant to perform with his own orchestra, has caused something of a stir. Says George Hinchliffe, founder of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain:

"Richard’s synergy of composition and performance make genre classification obsolete. Six grooves is full of intriguing and catchy musical ideas which transcend the boundaries of academic or popular music - it’s a game changer for the ukulele.”

During the concert the nationally acclaimed Brighton Youth Orchestra String Ensemble will also play a selection of eclectic works.
