Formed in January 2017 at the Royal College of Music, Ensemble Solaire is a fresh collection of young wind players who are keen to launch their wind quintet professionally with regular concerts throughout the year. They have performed in prestigious venues, including three performances at the Victoria and Albert Museum as part of the Reveal Festival and at the Cadogan Hall as part of the RCM ‘Rising Stars’ series, which Stephen Johns, artistic director of the Royal College of Music, described as “exceptional”. They are particularly looking forward to their upcoming performance of Ligeti’s Ten Pieces at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre on 11 May 2018.

They were the winners of the Boconnoc Music Award 2017, which led to a residency at Boconnoc Estate (17-21 July 2017), Cornwall; where they gave two concerts including performances of works by Barber, Taffanel, Carrapatoso and Francaix. In addition, the group also gave a workshop to the pupils of Doubletrees School.

Whilst studying at the Royal College of Music, the group have been working regularly with Olivier Stankiewicz; principal oboe of the London Symphony Orchestra, but have also received coaching from opera singer Sally Burgess and Sarah Burnett, principal bassoon of Britten Sinfonia. They have been able to test out a variety of new repertoire in the Woodwind Showcase performances at the RCM.
