  1. La belle Hélène - Jacques Offenbach

Like Orpheus in the Underworld, this rarely performed operetta is an irreverent and hilarious take on Greek mythology and the scurrilous going-on that led to the Trojan war. It's the story of Paris and Helen and her abduction by him disguised as a shepherd. A feast of melody with a zany plot it caused a minor scandal in Paris in the 1860s with its suggestive innuendo and lyrics.

It's an ideal show for a warm summer's evening providing fun and laughter and no dead bodies for a change as with more serious operas!

Picnic in the grounds Glynebourne style before the performance
