A Farewell to Arms

Our concert on 10 November, A Farewell to Arms, acknowledges the centenary of both the Armistice and the death of Hubert Parry, placing the composer’s soul-searching Songs of Farewell alongside the premiere of a searing new work by Geoff Page. Parry’s masterpiece dates from the last few years of his life; it charts a journey from simplicity to overwhelming poignancy, setting meditative poems and culminating in a Biblical text. Specially
commissioned to complement the Parry in this concert, Geoff Page’s Battle Cries sets warlike poems by William Blake to music of startling force. The concert as a whole moves from brutality to transcendence, and we hope you can come and experience it live with us.
