Yu Zhou started with the violin at 6 and piano followed at 8. He joined Junior Guildhall, studying with Erika Klemperer and Chenyin Li, and at 16, after deciding to pursue music as a career, he was offered a place at Chetham's School of Music to study with Benedict Holland and Jonathan Middleton. He then joined Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, studying with Mayumi Fujikawa and Hilary Coates. He is now completing his undergraduate degree at the Royal College of Music.

Yu Zhou has won numerous awards, including being a prizewinner at the Jaques Samuel Piano Festival. He won 2nd prize in the Yamaha Piano Competition at Chetham’s, 1st prize in the John Longmire Beethoven competition at Trinity Laban, 1st prize in the Emanuel Trophy Piano Competition, and 1st prize in the Cleveland Institute of Music International Academy Piano Competition.

Yu Zhou has performed in venues across the whole of UK, including at the Wigmore Hall, and a Snape Maltings concert which was broadcast on BBC Radio Suffolk and abroad. He enjoys studying scores and playing plenty of pieces, and believes it's always important to be faithful to the composer, but also to make their genius accessible to everybody. He hopes to continue to study and perform in competitions and concerts in order to bring music of the highest quality to audiences in the future.
