Our opening recital features harpist Oliver Wass – winner of the 2016 Gold Medal at the Guildhall School, the most prestigious prize for outstanding soloists – with Henry Roberts on flute, playing Bach, Bartók, Piazzolla, Lutoslawski and Schubert.

Oliver Wass was principal harpist in the National Youth Orchestra and now enjoys a flourishing career as a soloist, in chamber music, and playing concertos with the major orchestras. He has won many prizes and awards, he made his Wigmore Hall debut in 2016 and performed at the Purcell Room in 2018. Henry Roberts studied the flute at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has played in various orchestras and appeared as a soloist, including playing Mozart’s flute concerto in Horsham. Henry and Oliver play regularly together in the Pelléas Ensemble, a group comprising flute, viola and harp. Their programme ranges widely, from a Bach sonata and a group of Schubert songs, to music by three twentieth-century composers: Bartók, Lutoslawski and Piazzolla.

This concert forms part of the Mole Valley Arts Alive Festival.
