  1. Requiem da camera - Gerald Finzi
  2. Songs of Farewell - Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry
  3. God is gone up Op 27/2 - Gerald Finzi
  4. Blessed City, heavenly Salem - Sir Edward Bairstow
  5. Greater love hath no man - John Ireland

This concert marks two centenaries: the end of the First World War and the death of Parry, whose Songs of Farewell were written as the Great War began. Finzi’s poignant Requiem da camera was written in memory of his teacher who died on the Somme. These and pieces by Bairstow, Ireland, Gibbons and Paulus paint visions of a better world and a perfect heaven.

St James’ Church, Sussex Gardens, provides us with just the right environment; a rich acoustic to thrill the ear, and a vivid contrast of darkness and light to attract the eye.
