Dvorák’s E major quartet is full of freshness and invention and Beethoven’s early Op 18 No 3 quartet is one of his most good-humoured, warm and youthful. The third piece in this concert will be the second of Brahms’s string sextets which is much-loved by string players and audiences alike. The extra bass and lower middle voices give the ensemble a warmth and colourful richness which is natural to Brahms who sounds completely at home in this medium. Joy and Emma Lisney are two eminent and highly talented sisters who are both studying or about to return to studying at Cambridge University despite already making their mark in the music profession.
Dvorák’s E major quartet is full of freshness and invention and Beethoven’s early Op 18 No 3 quartet is one of his most good-humoured, warm and youthful. For the final piece in this concert, the Endellions continue their long tradition of combining with a Cambridge University student or students in a quintet or sextet (tbc!). Over the years we have been blessed with many outstanding players from the student body including several studying non-musical subjects as well as several who have now become distinguished professional players.
There are six concerts in the Endellions' 40th anniversary series at West Road Concert Hall, Cambridge - on the following Wednesday evenings: 24th October 2018, 21st November 2018, 30th January 2019, 27th February 2019, 24th April 2018 and 22nd May 2019.
