London Medical Orchestra and the Tottenham Community Choir join forces at St. Mellitus, performing an enchanting winter programme. Rossini’s Cenerentola (‘Cinderella’) Overture sets the fairytale tone, laying the ground for the opening music from Humperdinck's sumptuous Hansel and Gretel. Any dark spells cast by Dvorák's tone poem The Noonday Witch will surely be broken as Tchaikovsky’s famous waltz wakes his Sleeping Beauty from her slumber.
Should anyone be feeling sleepy, no fear - the choir will lead everyone in carols, they will perform a capella and will be accompanied by the orchestra in Faure’s Pavane.
Join us for this magical evening - with mulled wine and mince pies, there’s something for all the family!
The London Medical Orchestra Christmas Concert at St Mellitus is always a popular event. We recommend reserving your tickets in advance.
Entry for children under 16 is just £2.
The concert will support the Mbarara Epilepsy Project, Uganda
The Mbarara Epilepsy Project is based in SW Uganda. Epilepsy is particularly prevalent in Uganda, a result of birth injuries and cerebral malaria. Often children with epilepsy do not receive medical help due to stigma and there is a scarcity of trained health personnel. This innovative project supports community education and the training and development of local practitioners. Additional funds will extend the project to other areas.
The London Medical Orchestra was formed in 1954, consisting mainly of refugee doctors and dentists from central Europe. Although many of the present members of the Orchestra are not members of the medical or ancillary professions, the Orchestra continues to support medical charities through fund-raising concerts. Among former conductors are Norman Del Mar, Colin Davis and Bernard Keefe. Sir Adrian Boult and Jacqueline du Pré are among our past Vice Presidents.
The concert is sponsored by Nuchem Pharmacy, Stroud Green Road, Finsbury Park.
