Escape | Sophie Webber (cello)

Oxford-born, California-based cellist, Sophie Webber, has been performing selections from her acclaimed 2018 debut CD release, Escape: Bach's Six Suites for Solo Cello across the United States. Sophie is delighted to share her music in her home country, in London and for this concert at the Holywell Music Room, Oxford.

The afternoon concert will explore the diversity of the cello as a solo instrument, as well as Bach's long lasting influence on modern composers.

In Webber’s case it’s as if she were playing in an intimate setting, perhaps for someone special, in which every note has meaning rather as a look or a touch does; the resulting conversations she has with the music are endlessly absorbing...
