  1. Schwanengesang, 'Swan Song' D 957 - Franz Schubert

Much-loved baritone Roderick Williams OBE makes a welcome return to Leeds Lieder. Renowned for the generosity of his musicianship and his ability to communicate with listeners, here he is joined by Leeds Lieder Director Joseph Middleton to explore the musical nuances and emotional intensity of Schubert’s great non-cycle, Schwanengesang. Settings of fourteen poems by three poets – Ludwig Rellstab, Heinrich Heine and Johann Gabriel Seidl – this richly varied collection was published posthumously and concludes with the last song Schubert ever wrote: Die Taubenpost.
