Joanna MacGregor is one of the world’s most inventive and creative pianists. Her programme for this concert is one of contrasts, opening with Beethoven’s 32 Variations which explore the full range, colour and techniques of the piano. Chopin’s rich and flamboyant Mazurkas leads into Ginastera’s vividly imagined Argentinian folkloric dances, Sofia Gubaidulina’s Chaconne and Fazil Say’s loss-infused fusion of Eastern and Western styles Black Earth. The evening concludes with Beethoven’s magnificent middle-period Apassionata Sonata.

‘She is one of the most exciting and enterprising pianists of the moment.’ The Observer
