  1. Requiem Mass in D minor K 626 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, completed by Franz Xaver Süssmayr
  2. The Walking Shadows, for soloists, chorus and orchestra - Stephen McNeff, text by Aoife Mannix

Canticum will join forces with top chamber orchestra, Counterpoint, and a team of exceptional young soloists to present a concert commemorating the centenary of the end of WW1 with Mozart’s Requiem and a new oratorio, The Walking Shadows. The composer, Stephen McNeff, is a British Composer Award winner and two of his operas, Gentle Giant and Clockwork, have been performed at the Royal Opera.

The Walking Shadows tells the stories of four people in a landscape of war, referencing music of the time (It’s a long way to Tipperary, Oh what a lovely war, We don’t want to lose you) and setting a text by poet and performer Aoife Maddix, drawn from letters and reports of the time. It was commissioned with financial assistance from Arts Council England and Apples and Snakes. The work is designed as a companion piece for Mozart’s exhilarating Requiem, performed in the second half.
