We are delighted to welcome The Manchester Chorale and their conductor Jill Henderson-Wild to Kent following our successful weekend of music-making together in Manchester last year. Founded in 1979 by the BBC, The Manchester Chorale are renowned at home and abroad for their high quality of singing and sensitive interpretation of a wide range of musical styles. They have been independent of the BBC since the late 1980s.

Each choir presents its own varied choice of songs from the past to the present day. Our guests’ selection ranges from Tomás Luis de Victoria’s sublime motet O vos omnes to George Gershwin’s charming old standard, Someone to watch over me; whilst Kent Chamber Choir’s includes Henry Purcell’s celebratory setting of I was glad when they said unto me and Charles Stanford’s atmospheric The blue bird.

Both choirs feature works by the popular contemporary composer, Ola Gjeilo, and we join for two choral masterpieces: Robert Pearsall’s Lay a garland and, to conclude the concert, Charles Wood’s joyful anthem for double choir, Hail gladdening light.

I warmly invite you to our evening of magical choral music.
