100 years on from the end of World War One, Spiro presents a programme of works by soldiers who fought in the war on all sides. The programme will include the rarely performed 'Since I believe in God the Father Almighty' by Ivor Gurney – who fought on the Somme – and Max Reger, who fought and died on the German side. It will conclude with Hubert Parry's masterpiece 'Songs of Farewell'. Parry wrote these beautiful choral works throughout the war, but died just over a month before the Armistice in 1918.

Spiro Singers is Bristol’s newest chamber choir, founded in September 2017 by musical director Elinor Cooper. The choir draws on both amateur and professional musical talent from across the city of Bristol and beyond to perform challenging choral music from across the centuries.
