  1. Vltava, from Má vlast - Bedrich Smetana
  2. Concerto for cello and orchestra in E minor Op 85 - Sir Edward Elgar
  3. Symphony No 8 in G Op 88 - Antonín Dvorák

Opening the concert is Smetana’s charming Vltava from the mighty Má vlast. Often likened to a musical painting, this evocative poem celebrates the rolling river that runs through the beautiful city of Prague.

The centrepiece of this concert is Elgar’s sublime Cello Concerto, performed by cellist Kian Soltani. This concerto is a staple of Classic FM’s Hall of Fame, and it is easy to understand why, as the piece soulfully communicates the beauty, passion and anguish of the human condition in a way that no words can.

The concert concludes with Dvorák's exhilarating and theatrical Symphony No 8.

Free: pre-concert talk at 6:30pm with conductor Jirí Rožen and Venue Manager David Mansfield
