For their final concert of the 2018/19 season, Cambridge University Sinfonia come together with the Symphony Chorus under the batons of Ryan Wigglesworth and Toby Hession. They are joined by the eminent Sir John Tomlinson, CBE.

Tomlinson has appeared with all the major British opera companies, and he has sung at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany every year from 1988 to 2006, perhaps most notably as Wotan. We are honoured to welcome him to sing selections from Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov in his farewell to the role.

We are also particularly excited to close the concert with Symphony of Psalms, Stravinsky’s epic three-movement choral symphony, which makes fantastic use of both our large-scale symphony chorus and also our talented Sinfonia.

Mussorgsky’s masterpiece opera, sung by one of the most talented opera singers in the world, together with his Night on a Bald Mountain and Stravinsky’s Chorale Variations and Symphony of Psalms make a fitting end to a deeply Russian year at the Cambridge University Musical Society, as does the return of conductor Ryan Wigglesworth, who joined us for our season launch as well.
