Miguel was born in Lisbon, Portugal in 1998. He started to play the viola at the age of 6. In Lisbon he studied with Paul Wakabayashi, Jorge Lé and Ricardo Mateus. At the age of 17, he moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) where he was awarded a scholarship. In London, he was taught by Martin Outram and he is now studying with Hélène Clément.
Miguel is also very keen to play chamber music. Now, he is member of a trio with viola, clarinet and piano, and the Cordis string Quartet, both London based. With these groups he played in Colston Hall, St. Mary and Perivale and Halesworth. In July 2018 he performed in two string quartet concerts with the Internava Project in Iran.
Miguel has played solo many times with his former school orchestra, and he played 1st movement of Hoffmeister concerto with Camerata Atlântica. Next season, he is having solo engagements with the Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa (Lisbon Opera Orchestra) and the Orquestra Clássica do Centro (Classic Orchestra of the Center). In 2016 he was also given the opportunity to record Enesco Concertpiece live for the Portuguese National Radio.
Miguel was awarded seven 1st prizes in several national viola competitions including 'Vasco Barbosa' superior level in 2018. At RAM, he was awarded the 1st prize in the prestigious 'Theodore Holland Viola Prize' in 2017 and the James Wright award for general achievement throughout the year 2017/2018.
