The is formed of players from Canada, the US and the UK, in their final year of postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music. They have recently received a Special Prize for their performance of Ligeti String Quartet No.1 in the Anton Rubinstein International Chamber Music Competition in Düsseldorf, Germany. The quartet has also received tutelage from Garfield Jackson, Levon Chilingirian, Jon Thorne (of the Endellion and Chilingirian Quartets, and of the Oculi Ensemble respectively). The quartet have also recently been selected as 2019 Concordia Foundation Artists.
In October 2017, the quartet were awarded the St Peter’s Chamber Music Prize, for which they have performed two recitals as part of the Eaton Square Concert Series.In the summer of 2018, the Echéa Quartet were the string-quartet-in-residence at Ferrandou, Dordogne, where there gave many recitals as well as collaborating with the British baritone, David Wilson-Johnson. They were also awarded the role of Fellowship Quartet at Wintergreen Performing Arts, where they toured across Virginia, as well as working and performing with renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine.
Upcoming events in 2019 include a performance of Mendelssohn’s Octet in collaboration with Johannes Meissl at the Musikverein in Vienna, as well as a collaboration with Marin Alsop at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Further highlights of 2019 include performances at the Krama Contemporary Music Festival in Athens, Greece, as well as a quartet tour of the West Coast of North America.
