  3. Sappho sings - Jonathan Dove

Fairhaven Singers are thrilled to be giving the premiere of a wonderful piece of music by one of the country’s leading composers, Jonathan Dove. His Sappho sings sets fragments of poetry by Sappho, beautifully translated by Alasdair Middleton, in six short movements. Like all of Dove’s music, Sappho sings is vibrant, lyrical, and intensely rhythmic, and the writing for orchestra is superbly imaginative. The Dove is preceded by Beethoven’s stirring Mass in C and Mozart’s vivacious Symphony No 35. We are joined in these two gorgeous venues by our frequent collaborators, East Anglia Chamber Orchestra, and a quartet of charismatic soloists. You won’t want to miss this!
