Part of the Brahms day is this informal talk.

Johannes Brahms may be the hardest composer to pin down: a contradiction to fellow composers, music-lovers and possibly even to himself. He has variously been described as an antidote to Wagner and a die-hard classicist; yet there are those – including Schoenberg – who argued that he was the greatest composer of his age and a trailblazer for future modernists.

Today’s distinguished panel will help us to unravel this famously prickly character, who once said “If there is anyone here who I have failed to insult, I offer him my apologies!”

Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be served from 1.45pm.
