  3. Pictures at an Exhibition - Modest Mussorgsky, orchestrated by Maurice Ravel

This year the National Youth Orchestras of Scotland (NYOS) celebrates four decades of nurturing and developing the country’s best and brightest young musicians.

We are delighted therefore, to begin our 40th anniversary year as we did in our inaugural season back in 1979, with a series of spring concerts kindly presented with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

In the true spirit of partnership, NYOS Symphony Orchestra welcome to the podium RSNO Principal Guest Conductor Elim Chan. Join Elim and the Orchestra on a ‘walking tour’ through five small fishing villages on the northwest coast of Italy in Andrea Tarrodi’s Liguria, before taking in the sights and sounds of Modest Mussorgsky’s popular gallery, Pictures at an Exhibition. NYOS also welcome RSNO favourite Steven Osborne to perform Rachmaninov’s notoriously demanding Piano Concerto No 3. Steven is one of Britain’s most treasured musicians whose insightful and idiomatic interpretations of diverse repertoire demonstrate an immense musical depth.
