  1. St Matthew Passion BWV 244 - Johann Sebastian Bach

JS Bach’s St Matthew Passion is the crowning achievement of one of the greatest composers of all time and the culmination of a tradition of musical passion settings performed during Holy Week, the week before Easter. It is written for two choruses, two orchestras and six soloists. The first performance was in 1727 at the Good Friday Vespers in Leipzig’s Saint Thomas’ Church.

Salisbury Cathedral Choir is joined by soloists James Oxley (Evangelist) and Neal Davies (Christus) and the period instrument ensemble Florilegium for a performance sung in English.
