  1. Ein deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) Op 45 - Johannes Brahms

150 years since it was first performed, Monmouth Choral Society are delighted to be performing this work.

Brahms the humanist, not a believer in any obvious sense, made his own vey personal selection of Biblical texts for his German Reguiem, reflecting above all the comfort that can be offered to the bereaved amidst the uncertainties and transcience of human life. His music is by turns mysterious, terrifying, consoling, triumphant, but always beaitifully composed and richly Romantic in tine.

A selection of songs and orchestral works by Mendelssohn will also be performed.
