  1. Karelia Overture Op 10 - Jean Sibelius
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra Op 14 - Samuel Barber
  3. Symphony No 2, 'A London Symphony' - Ralph Vaughan Williams

We open with Sibelius's Karelia Overture, unfairly neglected compared to its well known sister piece the Karelia Suite, and a great start to this concert.

Dennis Simons, our music director, has had a long and distinguished career as leader of the BBC Philharmonic, co-leader of the London Philharmonic and founder leader of the Alberni string quartet, so we are very excited to have him with us as soloist in the Barber violin concerto with guest conductor, Michael Bell MBE, taking the baton.

In the second half we explore London in the early 20th century with Vaughan Williams's 2nd symphony, one of his most popular and enduring symphonic works.
