Tring Chamber Music 2019- Champagne Flute

Our season opens with sparkling music for flute and strings. Mozart’s familiar D major Flute Quartet has deservedly earned a firm place in the repertoire of this most rarefied of ensembles. Less often heard on these shores, outrageously neglected even, is the music of Max Reger, that late flowering Romantic of the early twentieth century. This beautifully crafted Serenade for flute trio (no cello here) combines a lightness of texture with a generous abundance of wit. Richard Rodney Bennett’s delightful portraits for solo flute are certainly a Bird Fancyer's Delight. Our concert concludes with one of Beethoven’s early forays into string writing, his third string trio. Here he dons his turbulent C minor hat and the result is a magnificent example of the young composer, at the peak of his powers.
