A Heine Songbook

Described as ‘the current front-runner in the new generation of Lieder singers’ (Gramophone Magazine), Leeds Lieder favourite Benjamin Appl was a BBC New Generation Artist and an European Concert Hall Organisation Rising Star artist for the 2015/16 season, appearing in recital at major European venues. He became an exclusive Sony Classical recording artist in May 2016 and won the Gramophone Young Artist of the Year Award. He had the fortune to be mentored by one of the greatest singers, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and tonight is joined by his regular collaborator, another titan of the Lieder world, Graham Johnson.

“In dynastic terms the young German baritone Benjamin Appl is lieder royalty” The Spectator on Benjamin Appl
“That peerless song accompanist” The Daily Telegraph on Graham Johnson
