Liebeslied – Lieder’s Love Songs

We are thrilled to welcome as our Guest of Honour one of the most important artists currently appearing before the public. Acclaimed as one of the foremost interpreters of Richard Strauss and Mozart, Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager is heard on the world’s great stages and has the rare distinction of having given recitals on the main stages of La Scala Milan and the Vienna Staatsoper. Her recordings have won many awards, including a Grammy. Much loved accompanist Julius Drake returns to Leeds Lieder.

Programme to include:

Schumann Liebeslied, Er ist’s, Die Soldatenbraut, Die Löwenbraut
Brahms Meine Liebe ist grün, Therese, Über die Heide, Unbewegte laue Luft
Schubert Gesang der Norna, Am Bach im Frühling, Geheimes, Florio, Erlkönig, An Silvia, Der liebliche Stern, Bei dir allein!
Brahms Der Gang zum Liebchen, Dein blaues Auge, Von ewiger Liebe
Schumann Frühlingsnacht, Die Lotosblume, Der Einsiedler, Requiem

“the grainy and distinctive timbre of Kirchschlager’s vivid mezzo-soprano is well suited to this highly charged emotional world, and Drake’s playing is eloquently impassioned” The Daily Telegraph
“Kirchschlager is exquisite and intensely dramatic by turns … Drake is outstanding” The Guardian
