The young Azerbaijani cellist Jamal Aliyev is fast becoming one of the real stars of his generation, with Gramophone Magazine praising the “countless little touches of imaginative colour” and “balletic grace” that make his playing so utterly distinctive. He makes his Saffron Hall debut with a superb programme, which includes works by Schumann, Rachmaninov and Chopin.
