The world-renowned cellist performs the first and third of JS Bach's six suites for solo cello, high points of the instrument's repertoire, separated by the sonata for solo cello by Mieczyslaw Weinberg, contemporary and great friend of Shostakovich, which is by turn haunting, witty and thrilling.
