  1. Per la flor del lliri blau - Joaquín Rodrigo
  2. Clarinet Concerto - Adam Gorb
  3. Symphonie fantastique Op 14 - Hector Berlioz

We open our 2019/20 season with a concert including works based on legends and fantasy.

The tone poem “For the flower of the blue lily” is one of Rodrigo's finest works for orchestra, based on a medieval Spanish legend. Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique is a work of extraordinary power and imagination which takes us on a journey from the ballroom, via open fields, a dramatic march to the scaffold and ends with the witches' sabbath dance. It is a work which continues to astonish, even today.

We are also delighted to welcome Nicholas Cox as our soloist for the Gorb Clarinet Concerto, a work which was written for and premiered by him and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1999.
