In today's recital, pianist Jean-Bernard Marie will play Schubert's Four Impromptus D935, alongside works by Chopin and Debussy.

Jean-Bernard was born in Mauritius and moved to Australia at an early age where he was taught by Josephine Bell and Igor Hmelnitsky at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. He subsequently studied with Venstislav Yankoff at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and obtained the 'Premier Prix'. He then pursued his studies in London with Geoffrey Parsons before embarking on an international career.

He performs with various ensembles, orchestras, as vocal accompanist and soloist in Europe, Asia, USA and Australia and has collaborated with many composers including Pascal Zavaro, Oliver Knussen, Morgan Hayes, Jesus Torres, Lowell Lieberman, Ross Edwards, Peter Sculthorpe and Edmund Campion.

He has performed at many international festivals, including Prague Spring, BBC Proms, Printemps des Arts de Monte Carlo, Cheltenham, Spitalfields, Hong Kong Arts and Festival Estival de Paris. He has recorded and taken part in live broadcasts for BBC, ABC, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Radio Prague, Radio France, RTVE (Spain), RAI (Italy).
