We explore the Grimm Brothers’ fairy-stories and wonder-tales, and the magical language of Des Knaben Wunderhorn, the collection of folk poetry first published in Heidelberg. Joanna Neilly and Anthony Phelan will trace the sources and resources that reinvent German language and identity in these Heidelberg years when the Romantic movement pioneered a style for later important song poets. The lunchtime concert is given by prize-winners of this year’s prestigious Das Lied competition, held in Heidelberg; and Ben Haggarty, master storyteller and founder of the Crick Crack Club, and multi-instrumentalist Sherry Robinson give their acclaimed telling of Brothers Grimm tales.
