  1. Don Giovanni K 527 - Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Come and join us on Saturday September 28th for a very special season opener. Following last year’s collaboration with the orchestra, where we performed Cosi fan tutte, Matthew Scott Rogers will join us once again to conduct one of the greatest operas of all, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, in a concert performance.

Don Giovanni was, for Mozart, an unusually intense work, and one that was not entirely understood in his own time. Written in two acts, its subject is Don Giovanni, a young, arrogant, and sexually promiscuous nobleman, who abuses and outrages everyone until he encounters something he cannot kill, beat up, dodge, or outwit. He is eventually carried down to hell by a chorus of demons.Mozart entered the work into his catalogue as an opera buffa. Although sometimes classified as comic, it blends comedy, melodrama and supernatural elements. A staple of the standard operatic repertoire, Don Giovanni is one of the most-performed operas worldwide. It has also proved a fruitful subject for writers and philosophers.
