The Torridon piano trio is made up of 4th year students at the Royal Academy of Music, Iona McDonald (violin), Laura MacDonald (cello) and Kirsty Chaplin (piano). They formed in September 2017 and have enjoyed learning an extensive range of repertoire and taking part in performances and competitions within the Academy. The Academy has presented them with many wonderful performance opportunities which include participating in the Isaacs and Pirani Piano Trio Prize and performing as part of the RAM Piano Trio day and strings open day.

They have enjoyed coaching’s with Ian Brown, Levon Chilingirian and Michael Dussek on repertoire including Shostakovich's Piano Trio No 2, Mendelssohn, Debussy and Beethoven.

The aims for the future include learning and discovering even more new repertoire and to participate in internal and external competitions and recitals in and around London, in particular with the aim to organise their first tour across Scotland.

Laura, Iona and Kirsty all have links to Scotland, which led to the establishment of the name ‘Torridon’ for the trio.
