The Barbican Quartet is the winner of the St Martin’s Chamber Music Competition 2018

The Barbican Quartet conclude their series of three concerts, beginning with another Haydn quartet, this time from the end of his life – in fact his last completed quartet. They follow it with a string quartet by Bartók. He wrote six quartets, expanding the range of sounds and playing techniques, and his quartets rank as some of the most important of the last century. They finish with music by Schumann, a quartet from the year in which he turned to chamber music and produced several of his finest works.
