Benjamin Grosvenor won the Keyboard final of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competition in 2004, when he was only eleven, and since then he has gone on to have an outstandingly successful international career. Admired for his virtuosity and his musicianship, he has played with orchestras all over the world and worked with many of today’s most distinguished musicians and conductors. His programme opens with music by Rameau, a short dance with variations. This is followed by one of Beethoven’s early piano sonatas, where the composer begins to develop his own distinctive style. The second half is devoted to the music of Liszt, one of the nineteenth-century giants of the keyboard, concluding with this Sonata in B Minor, his major virtuoso work for piano.

Please note that the the Liszt works in the second half have been amended from those originally published.
