The dynamic, young period instrument orchestra Wond’rous Machine makes their Southbank Centre debut with two of Mozart's most exalted symphonies. These two works encompass the musical world as Mozart knew it, from the lowliest popular styles to writing of huge complexity. His Prague symphony is known for its dazzling counterpoint, and the Linz for its operatic qualities. They were written in just three and four days respectively.

Complementing the symphonies are two pieces intended as entertainment music: a sparkling early divertimento for strings, written when Mozart was 15, and a much later set of German dances – the ancestor of the waltz – which accompanied a grand Imperial ball in Vienna.
